FULL-SERVICE
INTERIOR DESIGN

Where Architecture Guides the Interior

We design through structure first — resolving layout, circulation, millwork, and material before anything is layered on top. Every project spans from early concept through construction documentation and final installation, with every detail resolved personally by Megan.
Our work includes large-scale renovations, new construction, and whole-home furnishing projects across Atlanta and the East Coast.
We don't design for trend. We design for the way a home is actually lived in.

Homes Authored with Intention

Megan Paterson Interiors

interior design services

Architecture-first design for renovations, new construction, and whole-home furnishings — resolved from foundation to final installation.

We take full-scale renovations from first concept through final installation — managing spatial planning, millwork design, finish selection, lighting strategy, and material specification in close coordination with your contractor and architect.
Every decision is made in sequence, on purpose. Nothing is selected before the architecture is resolved.

For completed homes and post-renovation projects, we design and install layered furnishing plans where every piece has a reason to be there — custom upholstery, case goods, lighting, textiles, and art sourced and specified as a cohesive whole.
The furnishings serve the architecture. Not the other way around.

We collaborate with architects and builders from the earliest stages — advising on floor plans, elevations, cabinetry, and material selections before a single wall goes up.
This is where the most important decisions happen. We make sure the interior architecture is right before construction makes it permanent.

Before anything is selected, we study the bones. Floor plans, elevations, proportions, and circulation are assessed and resolved. This is where most designers don't go — and where the most important decisions get made.

Step Two: exterior and interior design

With the architecture established, we develop the full design direction — exterior materials, interior finishes, millwork profiles, ceiling details, lighting placement, and material palette. Every surface has a decision behind it.

step four: procurement and project management

Furnishings are designed to the room, not selected from a catalog. We develop custom and semi-custom pieces scaled to your specific proportions — upholstery, case goods, rugs, art, and accessories specified as a complete composition.

frequently asked questions

HOW MUCH DOES INTERIOR DESIGN COST?

The most common question — and a fair one. Here's a straightforward answer:
Renovation design fees are typically around 10–12% of your total renovation budget. So a $150,000 kitchen renovation is roughly $15,000–$18,000 in design fees. New construction is structured at $15 per square foot of finished space. Furnishing projects are scoped per project based on the number of rooms and scope, typically starting at $5,000/room.
Everything is presented in a custom proposal before you commit to anything. If you're not sure what your budget is yet, that's okay — we figure that out together during the consultation.

WHAT KINDS OF PROJECTS DO YOU TAKE ON?

Full-scale renovations, new construction, and whole-home furnishing projects. We work best with homeowners who want one person handling everything — from layout and finish selections through ordering and installation.
We don't offer one-room refreshes, selections-only services, or partial design packages. Every project we take on is full-service from start to finish.

WHAT'S YOUR STARTING BUDGET FOR PROJECTS?

We work best with renovation budgets of $150,000 or more, or furnishing projects spanning multiple rooms. If you're not sure where your project lands, fill out the contact form and give us a general idea of your scope — we'll let you know if it sounds like a fit before you commit to anything.

WHAT'S THE FIRST STEP?

Fill out the contact form and tell us about your project. If it seems like a good fit, we'll send you our welcome guide — which walks through our full process, pricing, and deliverables — and invite you to book an initial consultation.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A CONTRACTOR ALREADY?

No. We work with a trusted network of contractors and can make introductions once the design is underway. If you already have a contractor you love, we're happy to work alongside them.

DO YOU WORK OUTSIDE OF ATLANTA?

Yes — we work with clients throughout the East Coast. Travel is factored into your project scope and outlined clearly upfront. No surprises.

HOW LONG DOES A PROJECT TYPICALLY TAKE?

Renovations and new builds typically run several months, and new builds to over a year depending on scope and your contractor's schedule. Furnishing projects generally take a few months because quality pieces take time to produce and ship. We give you a projected timeline during the proposal phase and keep you updated throughout.

WHAT DOES "FULL-SERVICE" ACTUALLY MEAN?

It means we handle everything. Design, selections, ordering, contractor coordination, and installation — all managed by our team from start to finish. You're involved in decisions but you're never chasing vendors, managing deliveries, or playing middleman with your contractor. You show up for the fun parts. We handle the rest.

I DON'T HAVE MY DESIGN VISION FIGURED OUT YET. IS THAT OKAY?

Completely normal — and honestly, it's a better starting point than you'd think. You don't need a Pinterest board or a clear style in mind before reaching out. That's our job. We ask the right questions, listen to how you live, and translate that into a design direction. You just need to know you want your home to feel different than it does now.

HOW SOON CAN YOU START?

We only take on two new projects per month to make sure every client gets the level of attention this work requires. If your timeline is coming up, it's worth reaching out sooner rather than later — our calendar fills quickly and we'd hate for you to miss your window.

WILL I HAVE A SAY IN THE DECISIONS?

Every step of the way. Full-service doesn't mean we disappear and surprise you at the end — it means we guide the process so you're never overwhelmed by it. You approve every selection before anything is ordered, and we present options at each milestone so decisions feel easy, not stressful. You stay in control without having to manage anything.

I'VE WORKED WITH A DESIGNER BEFORE AND IT DIDN'T GO WELL.

We hear this more than you'd think. Unclear pricing, slow communication, a design that felt more like the designer's taste than yours — these are common frustrations and they're exactly what we built our process around avoiding. Fees are transparent before you commit. Communication is consistent throughout. And the design always starts with how you actually live, not what we want to put in a portfolio.

ARE YOU A DESIGN-BUILD FIRM?

No — and that distinction matters. Megan Paterson Interiors is an independent design firm. We work alongside a trusted network of contractors, but we are never the builder, and our fee is never tied to construction costs.
Before founding MPI, Megan worked within a design-build model and saw firsthand how that structure shapes decisions. In a design-build firm, the contractor and designer share a business interest — which means the question being asked, often quietly, is what's easier to build, not what does this client actually need. Scope gets softened. Details get value-engineered. The client's vision gets filtered through someone else's margins.
That experience is part of why MPI exists. Our only obligation is to you. When we specify a material, recommend a contractor, or push back on a proposed shortcut, it's because it's right for your home — full stop.
