full-service design

homes designed around the people who live in them

Every project is different because every client is different. What stays the same: I handle everything from first concept to final installation so you never have to chase anyone down, make decisions at midnight, or figure out what comes next. You make the big calls. I handle the rest.

Full-service interior design.
All of it. Start to finish.

Megan Paterson Interiors

From layout and materials all the way to final installation — every decision made, every detail managed, every contractor coordinated. The whole thing, handled.

For completed homes and post-renovation spaces. Every piece chosen with intention — custom upholstery, case goods, lighting, textiles, and art sourced and specified as a cohesive whole. Nothing that doesn't belong.

I come in from the very beginning — working alongside your architect and builder so the interior decisions are right before a single wall goes up. This is where the most important calls get made.

Before anything is selected, we start with the space itself. Floor plans, proportions, how rooms connect. Getting this right first means every decision after it is easier.

Before anything is selected, we start with the space itself. Every room fully laid out — furniture placement, traffic flow, dimensions confirmed. Your floor plan is resolved before a single material gets chosen or a contractor lifts a tool.

frequently asked questions

HOW MUCH DOES INTERIOR DESIGN COST?

Design fees are flat and scoped per project — quoted upfront in your proposal before anything begins. A single room starts at $5,000–$10,000. A kitchen runs $10,000–$15,000. A kitchen, pantry, and mudroom together is $15,000–$20,000. Multiple spaces range from $20,000–$30,000, and whole-home projects from $30,000–$50,000. New construction is $15 per finished square foot. Every fee is presented clearly before you commit to anything — no surprises.

What's your starting budget for projects?

I work best with renovation budgets of $150,000 or more, or furnishing projects spanning multiple rooms. If you're not sure where your project lands, just reach out — I'll give you an honest answer before you commit to anything.

How do you handle ordering and purchasing?

Everything is ordered through my studio — every furniture piece, fixture, lighting, hardware, rug, and accessory. I place the orders, coordinate delivery, and handle any damages or issues so you never have to. I purchase at trade pricing and pass those savings to you, plus a 30% markup that covers the full procurement process. You see both numbers — trade cost and final price — on every line item. Nothing is ordered until you've approved it.

What does "full-service" actually mean?

It means I handle everything. Design, selections, ordering, contractor coordination, and installation — all managed personally from start to finish. You're involved in decisions but you're never chasing vendors, managing deliveries, or playing middleman with your contractor. You show up for the fun parts. I handle the rest.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

I work best with homeowners who are ready to do it right — full renovations, new construction, and whole-home furnishing projects where one person handles everything. I don't offer one-room refreshes, selections-only services, or partial design packages. Every project I take on is full-service from start to finish. If you're not sure whether your project is a fit, just reach out — I'll give you an honest answer.

Are you a design-build firm?

No — and that distinction matters. I'm an independent design firm. I work alongside a trusted network of contractors, but I'm never the builder, and my fee is never tied to construction costs. In a design-build firm, the contractor and designer share a business interest — which means the question being asked, often quietly, is what's easier to build, not what does this client actually need. Scope gets softened. Details get value-engineered. Your vision gets filtered through someone else's margins. My only obligation is to you. When I specify a material, recommend a contractor, or push back on a proposed shortcut, it's because it's right for your home — full stop.

I don't have my design vision figured out yet. Is that okay?

Completely normal — and honestly it's a better starting point than you'd think. You don't need a Pinterest board or a clear style in mind before reaching out. That's my job. I ask the right questions, listen to how you live, and translate that into a design direction. You just need to know you want your home to feel different than it does now.

Will I have a say in the decisions?

Every step of the way. Full-service doesn't mean I disappear and surprise you at the end — it means I guide the process so you're never overwhelmed by it. You approve every selection before anything is ordered, and I present options at each milestone so decisions feel easy, not stressful. You stay in control without having to manage anything.

I'm worried about being out of your budget.

This comes up often and it's a fair question. I work with renovation budgets of $150,000 or more. If you're not sure where your project lands, reach out anyway — I'll give you an honest answer. If it's not the right fit right now, I'll tell you that and point you in a better direction if I can.

I've worked with a designer before and it didn't go well.

I hear this more than you'd think. Unclear pricing, slow communication, a design that felt more like the designer's taste than yours — these are common frustrations and they're exactly what I built my process around avoiding. Fees are transparent before you commit. Communication is consistent throughout. And the design always starts with how you actually live, not what I want to put in a portfolio.

What's the first step?

Fill out the contact form and tell me about your project. If it sounds like a good fit, I'll send you my welcome guide — which walks through the full process, pricing, and deliverables — and invite you to book an initial consultation.

How soon can you start?

I take on a small number of projects each year so every client gets my full attention. If your timeline is coming up, it's worth reaching out sooner rather than later — my calendar fills quickly and I'd hate for you to miss your window.

Do I need to have a contractor already?

No. I work with a trusted network of contractors and can make introductions once the design is underway. If you already have a contractor you love, I'm happy to work alongside them.

Will you work with my contractor or builder?

Yes — and I do it regularly. I provide your contractor with detailed documentation so there's no guesswork on site, and I stay actively involved throughout construction. If your project requires regular site visits, that's included in your project scope from the start.

How long does a project typically take?

Renovations and new builds typically run several months to over a year depending on scope and your contractor's schedule. Furnishing projects generally take a few months because quality pieces take time to produce and ship. I give you a projected timeline during the proposal phase and keep you updated throughout.
